Cheviot Classics came about one night in the pub!
Discussion went from ‘Nothing much happens in the village’ to ‘Lets have a Classic Car Show’ – via a few pints of the Landlords finest Ale, and The Belford Classic Show was born on Drive Your Classic Day, 27April 2014!
The event has run each year since then, and has become established as the 1st show of the season in Northumberland – with entrants coming from as far away as Glasgow and South Yorkshire.
My own motoring experience began back in the 60’s – before the term Petrolhead had been invented. I bought my 1st car aged 14 – a Ford Popular 100E for £7, and quickly learnt how to refurbish the clutch slave cylinder, master cylinder and all the brake cylinders before travelling many miles up and down ‘the back lane’ and around the field next door. Typical teenage bedroom walls were adorned with car pictures, but pride of place was held by a large poster of a Jensen Interceptor – and next to it a scantilly clad Raquel Welch! I passed my driving test on my 17th birthday, and the motoring journey began in earnest… Morris 1100, the Triumph Vitesse, to Hillman Avenger, to Cortina 1600E and then a Capri 2000 GTXLR – A 21st Birthday present to myself!
Since 2010, I have been transporting cars – mainly classics – around the country and Europe, and have built up a network of contacts around the UK. Over the years I have always maintained an interest in older cars, working in different capacities within the motor trade i.e. repairs, sales, finance, insurance etc., and with the upsurge in interest for classic vehicles – the ones I grew up with – it was a logical step to find suitable premises in which to indulge my passion – and hopefully yours too!
